Mood Boards

You may have read our previous blog on starting a mood board.

We wanted to give you a more in depth look at how to create a mood board.

A mood board is an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc. intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept.

It is where your brand style comes to life. Kind of like a vision board.

What colors, textures, foods, plants, materials make you think of your brand?

Is it beige, black + white? Is it inspired by the ocean? What inspires your brand image?

How to make a mood board

When making a mood board, you just need to lay it all out. You don't have to be a photoshop expert to make it. You can copy paste in Pages. You can print and stick It to a bulletin board.

There is no wrong way to make one!

We love looking at Pinterest and Unsplash images for inspo. Save them all in a folder and lay them all out later. You can also save a bunch of inspo from Instagram.

This is honestly the most fun part of building a brand. Figuring out your style!

The beginning is the most exciting part. You're picking all your colors, your name, your slogan.

Here are some of our top tips when creating a mood board.

Don't overthink it

It can be easy to spend hours looking at colors and images on the web. Pick what you think is great + don't look back. Your first instinct is the best one.

Be simple

Don't pick 7 colors + 12 different photo edit styles (faded, contrast, etc).

Narrow it down. Pick no more than 3 or 4 main colors and stick with them (unless of course your brand is a rainbow).

Black, white, or neutrals with a pop of color is our favorite when it comes to a color scheme!

If you feel it, save it

If a photo or logo speaks to you, save it so you don't lose it. You'd rather have it to go off of than not be able to find it again.
