Go With Your Gut

Opinions are like... you've heard the saying. If you haven't, google it.

One of the biggest things you learn in business and in design is to go with your gut.

Stop worrying about others' opinions. Stop asking everyone what they think.

Trust your intuition. That's why it's there.

Design is a gut feeling. It's subjective. It's an opinion.

Sure, there are principles of design. But, if you don't have the eye, you're just following a rulebook.

Design is subjective.

"If you feel it's right, go for it. If you feel it's wrong, say something."

This rule goes for client and designer. If you, the client, feel like something is not your brand and you say nothing, it will always be on your mind. You have to be YOU and you have to trust your gut.

There is a level of trust you must have with your designer. That they know what's best for you and your brand. But, your brand should always feel right for you. It should always speak to you.

Stop asking for opinions from people who aren't where you want to be.

Read it again... stop it. You don't care about these people's opinions, you don't care about having their job, you don't care about what they think about what YOU are doing.

Stop asking them.

Would you ask a fish for advice on how to climb a ladder? No.

They might be able to tell you what they've seen, but they don't know how to actually do it because they never have.

Trust your gut. It is the best advice you can take when it comes to anything, but especially when it pertains to business.

Your intuition will be right most of the time. The more times you use it, the stronger it gets and the better it will be. You need to learn how to listen to your intuition as a business owner, a designer, and in life.

Fear is what makes us doubt ourselves. Wanting to please everyone and wanting to get everything right. Well, the more people you ask, the less you will please. You can't please everyone. And frankly, that's not your job.

Ask yourself, why am I making this business? What do I want my brand to say to people? Where do I see myself in 5 years? These are your thruths. Your dreams. Your opinions. Only YOU have the power to make them happen and to believe in yourself.

"If you believe in yourself, other people will believe in you. If you doubt yourself, others will doubt you too."

At the end of the day, you have to make the big boy/girl decisions.

It's YOUR business. So, act like it.
